The Regional Development Council (RDC) IX Secretariat, headed by RDC IX Vice-Chairperson and NEDA IX Regional Director Phlorita A. Ridao, paid a courtesy call to Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman and Zamboanga City Mayor John M. Dalipe on 20 and 21 October 2022, respectively. The Secretariat briefed the local chief executives (LCEs) on the following: (a) background on RDC; (b) Regional Development Plan; (c) Zamboanga Peninsula Priority Programs and Projects; and (d) Regional Project Monitoring and Evaluation System.

Section 1 of Executive Order No. 325, series of 1996, stipulated that among the regular members of RDCs are the LCEs, to include all provincial governors, city mayors, and mayors of municipalities designated as provincial capitals.

The briefing is a routine activity of the Secretariat every election year. It is conducted to orient the newly elected LCEs on RDC matters and how this would relate to their local planning, investment programming, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation. The activity is also an avenue for the Secretariat to present the overall socioeconomic status and direction of the region. This is aimed to seek support and recommendations from the LCEs, and for the latter to see how their respective areas can contribute and complement towards the attainment of the development goals of Zamboanga Peninsula. The briefing for the other member LCEs of RDC IX will be conducted tentatively 4th quarter of 2022 and the 1st quarter of 2023. (Graebert S. Echin, NEDA IX)
